Highlight at the pirate party for kids: a treasure hunt
To save time and stress and to ensure that everything runs like clockwork, it is first worth creating a party checklist with to-dos for the pirate theme party. In this way, you can plan the to-dos in a relaxed way, have an overview from the very beginning and the preparations will run smoothly.
These are the 9 most important questions you should answer when planning your pirate party for kids, and you’ll have your party framework and to-dos:
It is important that you don’t take on too much for the pirate party for the children’s birthday party – especially when it comes to games and handicraft projects. Young children in particular still have a limited concentration span and don’t need so much programme, but are already absorbed in pirate role-play. The older the kids, the more demanding the programme can become, up to and including the treasure hunt, for which you prepare a day-long adventure.
Celebrate indoors or outdoors? Location and program must fit together
Where do pirates actually live? Of course, in the pirate republic of Nassau, in a pirate castle and on their black-flagged pirate ships. If you live in a big city like Berlin, you should definitely check out the themed and adventure playgrounds. Where can you find a wooden ship to climb and romp on? Even playhouses in the garden can be easily redesigned to match the pirate theme party with inexpensive decorations such as a pirate flag with skull and crossbones, pennant strings.
The younger the children, the easier it is to celebrate them indoors simply because of the supervision and to decorate everything nicely. Be sure to use decorations that the children can play with, such as telescopes, plastic parrots and the like.
You can find inexpensive and atmospheric pirate party decorations at amazon* at the end of the product boxes with prices. The cheapest and most sufficient is actually a large set with various pirate decorations – these are available in 46 to 156 pieces!

A yellowed, stained parchment roll sealed with a seal or tied with string, or an invitation to a pirate party for a child’s birthday party as a treasure map? Both creative invitations can be made in a relatively short time (depending on how many guests are invited) or you can save time and buy them.
For the bottle post, simply peel the label off transparent glass bottles. This works great with nail polish remover or pure alcohol. Stain the paper with black tea and crumple and smooth it a few times. Burn the edge of the paper with a lighter until you have a nice burnt edge all the way around. Write the invitation text on the parchment, roll it up, tie it with string and seal it with a seal. Put the cork in – done!
Or you can save time and buy one or more components ready to make :-).
Are you planning a treasure hunt? Then a treasure map is just perfect as an invitation card. Of course, you can draw it yourself – preferably with black ink on white paper. Then scan the drawn treasure map and print it out on vintage parchment paper and finish the invitation by burning the edge all around with a lighter.
Ready-made treasure maps are also available:

Hide a few chocolate gold coins under a pot and send the children one after the other, blindfolded and with a wooden spoon to tap, to look for the treasure. If the child moves in the right direction, the other children call out: warm, warmer or even hot. If it moves away from the treasure cold, colder or freezing!
The pirates form two teams. Move all the furniture to the side or play the game outside. Mark a starting line with a rope and place a bucket for each team at a distance of 5-10 metres. Each team gets 2 cushions as islands. At the start signal, they place the first island in front of them, the first child climbs onto it and places the second one in front of them. The aim of the game is for the entire team to move to the bucket one after the other on the cushions only and to cross the starting line again first and win. If a crew member touches the sea, they have to start again from the beginning.
Two teams of equal strength each pull on one end of a rope that is marked in colour in the middle. As soon as one team has pulled the marked middle part of the rope on a spot on the ground marked on their side, they have won!
Fill a tub with water and fill the bottom with gold coins and all kinds of other objects. The children form two teams and two are tied together. At a start signal, each pair of pirates is blindfolded and allowed to dive into the tub with one hand for as many gold coins and diamonds as possible for 30 seconds.
Each child folds a paper boat (preferably made of wax-covered construction paper). The boats are lowered into the water in the inflatable pool outside at the same time and each child tries to get their boat over the finish line first without capsizing and win by blowing.
For a simple treasure hunt, all you need is a chalk to draw arrows on the ground or snippets to point the way to the treasure. Depending on how old the children are and how much time this part of the programme takes, there are many great ways to customise the treasure hunt. For example, with riddles whose solutions give the clue where to go next or stations with tasks that need to be completed in order to get further instead of snippets.
