Easter is just around the corner and it’s time for springtime Easter decorations. Use cardboard and crepe paper to make a colourful DIY bunny garland that looks great on the window or wall.
It’s still grey outside and I can hardly wait for spring to arrive. So this year I started early to bring spring into my home. My craft project this year: decorating my old flat with a spring-like Easter garland with bunnies and flowers. You can find the template for the bunnies on the material list as a download to print out.
You can make the cute bunnies wonderfully with children. The pompom flowers made of crepe paper are a little more difficult for children’s hands, as you need a sure touch to pull the thin layers of paper apart so that the petals don’t tear. The bigger the pompoms, the easier – just enlarge the bunnies and the flowers, then you can make the DIY bunny garland wonderfully with children. 🙂

The garland is made of bunnies and yellow pom-poms
Time needed: 1,5-2 hours
You can buy beautiful paper with different patterns on both sides. I used such paper in spring colours for the bunnies, so that I can also hang the garland nicely on the window.
You can find the three different bunny templates on the template for download
Print out the template with the bunnies in the desired size. Put them on the motif paper and put a sheet of carbon paper in between to trace them. Now trace the outlines of the bunnies with a blank biros or a sharp pencil. Cut out the bunnies.
For a 1-1.50 m long DIY Bunny Garland for a window sash, I used the three bunnies once. They are placed in the middle. Two hopping bunnies that look to the right and left of the three bunnies and two sitting bunnies to finish on the right and left of the edge.
Make sure you trace the template for the bouncing bunnies once on the front of your design box and once on the back, so you get two mirrored bunnies.
Pick off a little cotton wool and roll it between your palms until you have a nice little ball of cotton wool. Stick cotton wool in the middle of each bunny’s bottom to make a fluffy tail.
Carefully string the layers of crepe paper so the flowers don’t tear
Place 6 layers of yellow crepe paper on top of each other and cut out 4 rectangles, each 7 cm long and 5.5 cm wide. In total you need 24 layers to make 4 pompoms for the DIY bunny garland.
Fold the six layers on top of each other like an accordion about 1 cm wide and fold to the end. Cut the ends right and left round in the shape of a semicircle. Now cut 2-3 mm in the middle on both sides and thread an approx. 30 cm long piece of baker’s twine through and clamp it in the cuts. Pull it tight and knot the baker’s twine in the middle.
Now pull the layers of crepe paper apart, 3 to the right and 3 to the left on both sides, so that you get a nice even flower. Do not cut off the overhanging threads, you will need them for hanging on the DIY bunny garland.
The garland will look lovely on a shelf or window
Punch holes in the ears of the bunnies with the hole punch. Ideal are 2mm small holes for the baker’s twine. Now thread first a sitting bunny, a bunny hopping to the middle, the three sitting bunnies, a bunny hopping to the middle and finally a sitting bunny again.
Tie a flower between two bunnies in the middle with a bow around the thread on which the DIY bunny garland is hanging.
Have fun making the bunny garland!
