Planning a children’s birthday party and looking for a fun game idea? Then birthday bingo for kids is a really good idea! Here I’ll tell you how to play the game, what the rules are, which game variants make it even more fun or challenging, which prizes and winnings you can prepare  at the birthday party. Let the fun begin!

Our birthday bingo is a simple, entertaining and fun game for children’s birthday parties or for playing with the family on a birthday. Simply download the PDF with the birthday bingo cards and the drawing cards, print them out, laminate them if possible and start playing. Apart from a printer and printer paper, you only need markers – preferably ones that are reusable. Markers that all parents have at least one of at home: Gummy bears, Smarties, M&Ms, sweets or birthday sprinkles (ok, not everyone has them in stock).

Do you know the rules of bingo? Sure, 5 in a row! If you’re curious about other fun, exciting and creative game variations, you’ll find 4 more variations in my article. I also give ideas for age-appropriate adaptations for children aged 3 and up (with the help of a parent), 6 and up and a challenging adaptation for children aged 10 and up (and for adults or families with children of different ages).

You can find the birthday bingo printable as a PDF for download on the materials list!

Birthday Bingo Printable for Kids

Free birthday bingo printable with 5 bingo cards and calling cards

5 birthday bingo cards and calling cards are included in the free bingo game version

In this article you will find a free birthday bingo printable out, which consists of 5 bingo cards with motifs and draw cards. The link to download the PDF can be found on the list of materials. All you need to do is download it and print it out. The materials list contains everything you need to prepare and play the game.

Do you need more than 5 different bingo cards? You can also buy a comprehensive bingo card set in our store. It consists of 30 bingo cards, drawing cards, compact instructions and 5 x 70 markers in 5 colors.

Material List – What You Need to Play

How to Play Birthday Bingo

Print out the PDF with the birthday bingo cards and cut out the bingo cards and draw cards. It is worth laminating the bingo cards so that you can reuse them. If you only want to play once, use the thickest possible paper so that they don’t break so quickly. Each player receives a different bingo card with different pictures on the 5 x 5 playing fields that match the birthday theme and a set of 25 markers or a pen to cross off. The youngest player begins and draws the first motif card, says out loud what it represents and places it in the middle of the table where everyone can see it. Now each player places a marker on the matching space on their bingo card. The next player then takes their turn in clockwise order and draws a motif card, and so on.

As soon as a player has a complete row of 5 marked pictures – horizontally, vertically or diagonally – he calls “Bingo!” The game is over when the first player calls “Bingo”. In this article, however, you will find other game variants which, in my opinion, are more fun than the classic version, especially for children.

To make the game even more interesting, various prizes and winnings can be offered. These can be small gifts such as sweets or small toys that every participant would like to have. You can find more ideas for prizes further down in the article.

Rules

  • Draw motif cards clockwise in turn and announce the motif out loud
  • Mark the playing field only if the motif has been drawn
  • The winner is the first person to fill in a row of 5 horizontally, vertically or diagonally and shout “Bingo”
  • A round ends with the first “Bingo” or you can continue playing until places 2 and 3 are determined or until all children have a “Bingo”

4 Fun Birthday Bingo Game Variations for Kids

To make the game even more interesting, you can also try out different variations. The classic bingo game, in which the first person to have 5 in a row wins and thus ends the game, is just one way to play! You should definitely try out these game variants too:

1. Bingo With Time Pressure

A stopwatch (available on every smartphone) is set. The aim of the game is to get 5 in a row within 5 minutes or 8 minutes. So there is usually not just one winner but often several! This bingo variant is therefore also suitable for younger children up to the age of 6.

2. 2 x 5, 3 x 5 or 5 x 5 Birthday Bingo for Kids

The aim of these game variants is to fill 2 x 5, 3 x 5 or even 5 x 5 squares first and call bingo. A round of the game therefore lasts longer and the children have to be focused so as not to miss any motifs.

3. More Winning Combinations

In this birthday bingo variant, prizes or points can also be awarded for combinations other than 5 in a row. Other winning combinations can be:

  • Four corners
  • An X (i.e. 2 diagonal “bingos”)
  • One + (one horizontal and one horizontal bingo)
  • One, two or three letters or the letters of the birthday child’s name

4. Explaining Motifs – More Challenging Birthday Bingo for Kids Aged 6+

In this more challenging version of the game, draw cards are drawn face down in turn. The player does not name the motif revealed but describes it in a sentence. For example: Birthday cake – “There are candles on it that the birthday boy or girl blows out.”

Play Birthday Bingo Several Times

If you only want to use each bingo card once, the playing fields can simply be marked with a pen. It is more sustainable to reuse the bingo cards. It’s very simple:

  • Laminate the bingo cards and use erasable pens
  • Use coins, glass nuggets or sweets such as Smarties or jelly beans as markers

Ideas for Winnings and Prizes for Birthday Bingo for Kids

For children, birthday bingo is not just about the fun of playing, but also about the prizes and winnings that can be won. It is important that these are appropriate and age-appropriate. Here you can give free rein to your creativity.

However, it is always important that all children are treated fairly and that no one goes away empty-handed. With the right selection of prizes and fair distribution, birthday bingo becomes the highlight of the children’s birthday party!

Ideas for Prizes:

Customization Options for Kids Of Different Ages

Birthday bingo can be played by children aged 3 and over at the earliest with the help of an adult. Children aged 4 – 6 years can cope well with the simple basic rules of the game. However, it is advisable to play at least the first round until every child has a “bingo” or has marked the entire card. That way, every child wins.

For children aged 6 and over, game variants 1-3 offer more variety and scope for creativity. It’s no longer just about getting 5 in a row, you have to stay focused and can, for example, play for different winning combinations or increase the thrill with time pressure.

The challenging game variant 4 is suitable for children aged 8 or 10 and over or as a birthday bingo game with the family on a birthday.
