Concrete is a versatile material that also looks beautiful as it ages. Decorations made of concrete are suitable for the garden or indoors- This is how you how you can make your own concrete hand.
In every modern furnishing shop, there are suddenly decorations and living objects made of concrete. This material is very trendy and has a great advantage: working with concrete is easy and can be done by anyone with a few tricks.
The concrete hands are a motif that can be used all year round for seasonal decoration. In summer and spring as a planter for the garden, at Halloween and Christmas as a candle holder – or a tray for the house key.
You can find everything you need to make the hands as concrete decoration on the material list. The detailed step-by-step instructions show you exactly how we did it.

Time: about 30 minutes + 3 days waiting time.
Mix the creative concrete with water
First, spread a generous amount of newspaper on your work surface. In a bucket or bowl (I used an old plastic planter), mix the mixture for the concrete.
You can make the material for the concrete decoration yourself from cement, fine gravel and water in the right proportions. Much easier and just as good in the result are ready-made creative concrete mixtures – I used this creative concrete for my concrete hands. When mixing the concrete, you should follow the package instructions exactly for a beautiful end result.
Depending on the size of your gloves (S-XL), you should mix at least 750g of concrete per hand.
The glove is the casting mould for making concrete hand decoration yourself
Now a helper holds open the opening of the glove and you pour the liquid concrete into the mould. You don’t have a helper? Move the clothes horse over the table and attach the glove to it with clothes pegs so that it stands open. Now you can pour in the concrete.
The glove must not be completely full so that you can still shape it afterwards. Fill it about 2/3 full.
Filled and knotted – now the concrete hand just has to dry
Now tie the end tightly with a piece of string. Clean the outside of the glove and massage the concrete so that it spreads evenly.
Weigh down the concrete hand in the desired position with books
To make sure the concrete hands lie flat and you can place flower pots or lanterns in the palm of your hand, we now broke the glasses and books to help.
We put a glass with a smooth bottom upside down and draped the hand on it to dry so that the bottom of the glass is held by the palm of the hand. On top of that we put a book to weigh it down and to give the concrete hand a flat surface to lie on.
Tip: Your hand keeps slipping off the glass and won’t stay put? Attach it to the glass on the laced side with fabric tape for extra stability.
The concrete hands have many uses as decorations
After about 2 hours the concrete has dried. To remove it from the glove, you should wait 2-3 days until the concrete is completely dry.
To do this, cut the glove open and carefully rip the rubber with the cutter. Remove the glove from the hardened concrete hand.
Tip: You can also make a golden or coloured hand as a concrete decoration! You can stick gold leaf on the concrete hand or paint it with colour or oil. If you mix tinting paint or acrylic paint into the concrete while pouring, you can colour it completely!
